- Circana’s Mat Piscatella shares Switch 2 hardware sales data in the US
- In its first three months, Nintendo’s console surpasses PlayStation 4
- He adds that hardware revenue growth is driven by higher sales prices.
Despite rising hardware prices in the United States, the Nintendo Switch 2 continues to fly off shelves in the region.
Trusted industry analyst Mat Piscatella of Circana spoke to Bluesky to share updated sales data for the Switch 2 covering the console’s first three months on sale. He said “Switch 2 sales were able to offset double-digit declines on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and Switch.”
Additionally, Piscatella noted that the Switch 2, in the United States, sold 2.4 million units in its first three months, breaking the PlayStation 4’s previous record of 2.2 million units sold by that console in the United States during its first quarter of sales.
He added that Switch 2 sales are “trending 77% ahead.” [of] chronological sales of the original Nintendo Switch”, showing that there is a clear appetite and then some more for the newer system, despite the marked increase in hardware prices since the days of the OG Switch.
Finally, on the hardware front, Piscatella wrote that year-to-date hardware spending is up 20% over last year. “Unit sales increased 6.5% year-over-year,” he said, “with the average selling price increasing 12.3%, to $453 per unit sold.”
Please note, this last statistic should not necessarily be considered impressive. In a follow-up article, Piscatella explains that while hardware performance is strong in the U.S., “it’s the higher sales prices that are really driving the total spending growth.”
