No captain or photo session event in Pakistan before the Champions Trophy

There will be no call or official photoshoot of the ICC CIP before the ICC champions trophy. The event has traditionally taken place in the host country of an ICC tournament, but will not be part of the preparation of the Champions Trophy in Pakistan, the country’s first ICC tournament since 1996.

No opening ceremony took place in the preparation of the last Champions Trophy – in the United Kingdom in 2017 – although there was an event as a captain and an official photo shoot. The PCB said that neither the ICC nor the Cricket Council had ever announced a opening ceremony before the tournament. However, the PCB will organize an event in Lahore on February 16, three days before the first match, to mark the start of the tournament. A PCB official told Espncricinfo that the event would be “supported by the ICC” and that the CPI officials expected at Lahore at the time would be present.

By the way, the ICC did not organize a captains event before the 2024 male T20 World Cup which was played in the Caribbean and the United States. With teams playing warm -up matches in several countries, the ICC has rather chosen to make the official launch via a lighting projection program that featured the 20 ray captains on the New York Rockefeller Center building.

The PCB said that the lack of a press and photo session conference of a captain was in logistical concerns. The tournament which takes place on four different places in two countries, and with schedule clashes for several teams during the accumulation of the tournament, the PCB said that the teams had to arrive in Pakistan for the Champions Trophy near the start of the tournament. Australia does not go to Pakistan before February 19, the day of the first game.

Development resolves the question of the potential presence of the Captain of India Rohit Sharma in Pakistan. If there had been a press conference or a photo session of an official captain in accordance with the agreement, it would have forced Rohit to be present for the event.

Until last week, the BCCI told Espncricininfo that Rohit’s question traveling in Pakistan had “not yet been discussed” and was “not on the agenda”. As the Indian government had not authorized its cricket team to go to Pakistan for the event, it was not clear if he would have done it for Rohit for any captain’s event.

Due to the political tension between the two countries, India and Pakistan have not played any bilateral series since 2012, although they continue to meet during ICC tournaments. While the Pakistani male team went to India for two ICC tournaments during this period, India has not played any international cricket in Pakistan since 2008. This context has meant that the Champions Trophy had to put L by a hybrid model, with Dubai named host of the host of the Champions Trophy of India, including potentially the final, if India did. This model will also be used for ICC events in India until 2027, allowing Pakistan to play their matches outside India.

To illustrate the difficult relationship of the two countries, the new BCCI secretary, Devjit Saikia, had to publicly clarify last week that India would follow “each ICC rule linked to the uniform”, in response to reports and Speculations not confirmed that the BCCI had opposed the name of the official host, Pakistan, on their jersey.

The PCB, on the other hand, will also welcome ceremonies to mark the completion of stadiums renovated in Lahore and Karachi. The Gaddafi stadium of Lahore, which is currently being renovated, should be inaugurated by the Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif Sharif on February 7, the day before the place which welcomes its first international game – the opening of ODI of a tri- Series featuring southern South Africa in South Africa in South Africa, and New Zealand – since its reconstruction. The Karachi National Stadium will be inaugurated by Pakistani President Asifies Ali Zardari on February 11.
