Islamabad:
The Standing Committee of the National Assembly on the Interior approved on Tuesday an important amendment, declaring article 320 of the PPC as non -reproducable in cases where a deceased person due to reckless driving.
The committee met in Parliament with Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz in the president. The Committee unanimously adopted the amendment to the law, which guarantees that the accused drivers involved in fatal accidents due to negligence cannot obtain a deposit.
The proposal was part of the bill for modifying criminal law 2024, presented by the PPP legislative, Sharmila Farooqui, who stressed that 128 people died in road accidents in Islamabad last year.
“Accidents do not discriminate between the poor and the rich,” said the Qadir Patel committee member. “Even God forgives errors, but the law must maintain justice.” The members supported the amendment to article 320 of the PPC.
Article 320 PPC deals with punishment for “Qatl-i-Khata”, a form of guilty homicide, by a rash or negligent conduct. However, the committee kept article 319, which also dealt with “Qatl-i-Khata”, unchanged.
The Committee also approved the Bill for Anti -Roriste Modification 2024 without any opposition. Meanwhile, the CRPC 2025 amendment bill has been postponed to the next session at the request of the Ministry of Law.
In particular, no member supported by PTI attended Reunion. In the middle of the PTI call to demonstrations in Islamabad, Minister of the Interior Talal Chaudhry said that only eight people had been detained. He criticized PTI leadership for not having followed the appropriate procedures.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Chaudhry said that the PTI had asked for permission from protest by e-mail but had never followed. He added that the provincial authorities contacted the local management of the PTI but received no response.
