Norton has introduced new feature that aims to help users locate DEEPFAKE audio and video content on their smartphones
Norton Deepfake Protection will be part of the Norton Genie AI assistant on Norton 360 mobile applications – as so far, it was only available on some PC Microsoft Copilot +, and was considered an early access phase.
Now, Norton spreads the availability of the tool, even allowing those without PC IA to defend themselves against sophisticated scams.
YouTube support
A Deepfake video or audio is a multimedia file created using AI to realistically imitate the appearance, voice or actions of a person, often manufactured by forming automatic learning models on real images or recordings.
This type of content has already been observed in different scams, and Norton says that the tool provides: “an additional layer of contextual protection” by identifying inconsistencies or slight deformations in the physical characteristics of people appearing in videos.
For the moment, the tool only supports youtube videos in English, but it is planned to extend the platform and language support in the future.
Anyone interested in testing the tool can download youtube links to the assistant to receive “real -time advice on the authenticity of the video”.
The tool is available in Norton 360 mobile products in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, through Android and iOS devices. The office support is “to come,” added Norton.
One of the most widespread in-depth scams on the Internet is the famous “Elon Musk investment scam”, in which Crooks has created a Deepfake of Elon Musk promoting his new cryptocurrency play. In the video, he talks about the medal of being the future of money transfer and promises “huge gains” for investors.
While the first iterations of the scam were quite easy to spot, the AI has improved considerably over the years and will continue to do so, more blurring the boundaries between the truth and the deception.
