Islamabad: President of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq described the remarks of a judge of the High Court of Islamabad as an attack on Parliament.
Speaking during a session of the National Assembly, Sadiq said that the judge’s declaration was an assault against the legislative body and that no one had the right to make disparaging comments on Parliament.
Sadiq also ordered the Federal Minister of Law Azam Nazeer Tarar to transmit to the relevant judge that parliament is supreme.
In addition, the speaker mentioned that he had written separate letters to the government and the opposition concerning the appointment of the election commissioner.
The remarks in question were made by judge Mohin Akhtar Kayani of the IHC during a hearing today linked to a petition contesting the results of the examination of the Federal Commission of the Public Service (FPSC).
“The pillars of the judiciary, Parliament and the administration have all collapsed; the pillar of the judiciary is in the air, but we are still not discouraged,” noted the judge.
Last month, when he was addressed to an event, judge Kayani said that the 26th constitutional amendment was introduced on the basis of a letter.
“Even if the 26th amendment exists, you cannot discourage us from our intentions. Such stages have occurred in the history of Pakistan before, and today, the hope of the people rests with the judiciary, the Parliament and the media. “
He also added that he thought that the 26th constitutional amendment will finally be heard by a complete bench of the Supreme Court, and this question will be resolved for the survival of the people of Pakistan and the system.
