- The only Nova Launcher developer will no longer update him
- It can always be downloaded but will probably not be a viable option for too long
- However, there are many other Android launchers available
Nova Launcher is one of the oldest and oldest Android launchers-that is to say overlays that you can download to replace the one your manufacturer has put on your phone. But despite its lasting popularity, it now stops mainly.
Its creator Kevin Barry published a statement saying that he was the only one to work on Nova Launcher in the past year, and that he is now leaving Branch (who acquired Nova in 2022).
In preparation for this, Barry worked on an open source outing of Nova Launcher so that he can live, but he has now apparently told Branch to stop working on it. It therefore looks a lot like Nova Launcher will not continue in the form.
Other options
If you are counting on Nova Launcher, it will certainly be a disappointing news, but there are promising alternatives.
There is the Niagara launcher for one, which is another popular option (but not in the same league as Nova Launcher). It is more minimalist than Nova Launcher but always quite customizable.
Then, there is Hyperion Launcher, which may be slightly less known than Niagara Launcher or Nova Launcher, but is also full of features and customizable for the latter, which makes it a good alternative if you want to get as close as possible to the Nova launcher.
There is also Smart Launcher, which automatically sorts your applications into categories, will automatically modify the theme color to match your wallpaper and is fully customizable. In addition, the developers have in fact published an aid for users of Nova who might want to go to the smart launcher.
Or if you find comfort in a big name, there is Microsoft Launcher, which provides customizable icons, daily bing wallpapers, a personalized flow, and more. It is well examined and has been downloaded more than 50 million times.
In any case, for the moment, Nova Launcher is still available on the Google Play Store, but if it stops being updated – as it seems to do – then its days to be useful or even compatible with new devices and Android versions are probably numbered.
