- Nvidia could have a new spin on its RTX 5090 graphics card
- It would be a new version of the RTX 5090 D for China
- A flight says that he will make a “surprise”, but the truth could be more trivial
According to rumors, Nvidia is planning a new variant on its flagship Blackwell graphics card, potentially a DD RTX 5090 model – and it could be “surprised” according to a leak.
Tom’s material reported two separate mentions of this potential GPU (add the seasoning with all of this) to X, the first of which came from Megasizegpu, which mentioned the RTX 5090 DD and how it will be for China only.
Thus, the theory is that it is a series of RTX 5090 D (simple D, not double D) for China, a different spin of the standard flagship product of Blackwell which was produced for this country to bypass the American export regulations.
Except that the goal posts on these restrictions have been moved and now exclude the RTX 5090 D itself as too powerful (for the use of AI) to be shipped in China. It seems that the idea is now to further reduce the graphics card to make the provision of Asia again, and call it the RTX 5090 DD.
The alleged cutting specifications were provided by another used to the GPU leaks on X, Kopite7kimi, as you can see below.
RTX 5090 DD? PG145-SKU40GB202-240-K * -a121760fp32384-Bit GDDR7 24GBPS575WAND There is a surprise.June 18, 2025
Key changes are a slightly lower GPU chip (GB202-240, rather than GB202-250, as shown in the original 5090 D), and the video RAM was fell at 24 GB with a narrower 384-bit memory bus.
This means a 25% stroke on the memory bandwidth compared to the RTX 5090 D, but the number of nucleus and the TDP remain the same (the latter is interesting, and I will come back to why shortly).
Tom’s equipment takes by saying that these two rumors are entirely aligned – and they come from what we can see on the specifications – but note that Kopite7kimi has a question point at the top of their message on X, which begins: “RTX 5090 DD?”
However, that probably refers to the question of the name, and if it will really be called RTX 5090 DD, rather than doubting if it is in fact a new turn on a graphics card only in China. Although we should never take anything for the acquired of the rumor, and perhaps the latter could be the case.
In any case, the most intriguing song here is the mention of Kopite7kimi of a “surprise” of Nvidia with this GPU.
Analysis: Let the guess games start
Regarding the name, yes, making it “DD” seems rather improbable, but remember-it is the company that brought you the RTX 4070 Ti super graphics cards (and episodes of non-imaginativity just as clumsy in the past).
As mentioned, the surprise is what we really want to know, and Kopite7kimi does not develop what it could be with a kind of vague index, even. So, we are allowed to guess this score.
Tom’s equipment theorizes that surprise could still be cut to the powers of the IA of the graphics card delivered via the firmware, and this seems quite possible. But just as it sounds entirely dullAnd the way in which the leak teases that “there is a surprise” gives the impression that it is formulated to stir up a little excitement here. A minor chop on AI’s capacities qualifies in this regard, but that NVIDIA could possibly have in its round here?
For me, this suggests that Nvidia provides for a decision such as reducing the price of RTX 5090 DD. Or maybe the most exciting, offer it outside China? Yes, okay, it seems unlikely (although as indicated, with this question mark, it may be that Kopite7kimi is not entirely sure that it is the Chinese variant mentioned). Perhaps more realistic, we could look at a beautiful old bump at clock speeds (hence the TDP remaining the same, the specification being reduced in certain key areas).
Hopefully we will discover early what Nvidia could do here, if something, because all this could be so much smoke from the rumor mill (or team Green plans that never materialize).
