Better and more precise weather forecasts could soon be more common for all of us thanks to a new NVIDIA upgrade.
During its NVIDIA GTC 2025 event, the company unveiled the next step in its plan to use a digital planet earth twin to help forecastists build more precise forecast models.
The NVIDIA omaverse BluePrint model for the Earth-2 meteorological analysis model provides significant update on original iteration, announced at GTC 2024, offering more precise and powerful tools to make forecasts even better.
Better forecasts, faster
NVIDIA says severe weather events have had an impact of 2 dollars of the world’s economy over the past decade, and better forecasts could be a way to mitigate this.
He indicates that the NVIDIA omaverse BluePrint for Earth-2 offers a certain number of useful tools, in particular the NVIDIA GPU acceleration libraries, a physical-AI framework, development tools and microservices to accelerate the process of passing prototyping to production with weather forecast models.
Indeed, Nvidia says that all this should help developers build solutions that provide warnings and forecasts updated in a few seconds, rather than the minutes or hours necessary for traditional processor.
“We see more extreme meteorological events and natural disasters than ever, threatening lives and goods,” said Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia.
“The Nvidia Omverse plan for Earth -2 will help industries around the world to prepare – and mitigate – climate change and bad weather.”
The platform has already registered several major climate technology companies, including AI G42, JBA Risk Management, Spire and others.
