- SPANGRAM: SURFANDTURF
- My rating: Hard
- My rating: 1 clue
I had no idea what “Expensive Pairing” could mean when I started the game, beyond a hunch that we were perhaps looking for word pairs and – continuing my literal interpretation – something to do with money.
After getting nowhere quickly, a clue gave me CRAB, but I had a hard time thinking of what went with that – Sandwich?. Then I got SHRIMP and I was still stuck in a land of confusion.
It wasn’t until I discovered RIBEYE that I realized the couple in question was SURFANDTURF – the epitome of 1970s fine dining and the perfect combination for those who don’t know what to order.
Yesterday’s NYT Strands Answers (Saturday December 13, Match #650)
