NYT Strands today (game #602) – the answers
The answers to today’s Strands, game #602, are…
- PUMPKINS
- BUT
- FOLIAGE
- SOCCER
- HARVEST
- ORCHARDS
- SPANGRAM: AUTUMN
- My rating: Easy
- My rating: Perfect
The theme was a little less cryptic than usual today, so I immediately started looking for AUTUMN. Rather than being buried under a pile of leaves, it was easily visible and plain from left to right.
This work accomplished, I began to look for the most obvious words before looking for the most obscure; well, obscure for me at least. I doubt I would have thought of CORN if it hadn’t been subsumed under PUMPKINS, while ORCHARDS took me a lot longer than I expected.
I once took a FOLIAGE coach tour when visiting Boston a few years ago and the guide was so minimal in his descriptions of the trees that when we passed a particularly attractive display he simply shouted “color,” which he did off and on for the next three hours.
I guess he started out by describing everything, but over time he realized that all people wanted was a warning of when to take a photo. I hear his voice in my head every year as the leaves turn. Color!
