NYT Strands today (game #731) – the answers
The answers to today’s Strands, game #731, are…
- SUGAR
- FLOUR
- VANILLA
- CANDLES
- ICING
- COCOA
- SPANGRAM: COOKING Aisle
- My rating: Moderate
- My rating: Perfect
I love baking cakes and have made some lovely ones over the years for my children’s birthdays.
My biggest success was a Pikachu/Pokemon cake I made when they were young, and that’s when I realized an important truth about these things: moldable icing (more often called ‘frosting’ in the UK) can do a lot of work transforming something unrecognizable into something that will delight a seven-year-old. Seriously, you could almost forget about the cake inside and just give them a pile of shaped yellow frosting and they will be happy.
Although this is a relatively simple Strands puzzle, it was the one that took me the longest to identify the Spangram. I spotted BAKING early on, and having already found SUGAR and FLOUR, I knew what the general theme was. But COOKING Aisle? This second half of the sentence took me a while.
Still, I finally got there, and none of the other answers were too tricky other than CANDLES, which I hadn’t thought of initially because they weren’t an ingredient as such.
