NYT Strands today (game #612) – the answers
The answers to today’s Strands, game #612, are…
- CHRYSALIS
- CATERPILLAR
- TRAP
- EMIGRATE
- MILK
- SPANGRAM: MONARCHS
- My rating: Hard
- My rating: 1 clue
The migration of MONARCHS from Canada and the northern states of the United States is one of the wonders of the natural world and one of those Strands games that had me reading Wikipedia and downloading podcasts afterward in an attempt to learn more.
The first cycle ends around now, with the arrival of millions of butterflies in central Mexico before resuming in the spring when these same MONARCHS will fly north in search of milkweed – the only plant on which they lay their eggs and the only plant that the caterpillars will eat and which will make the resulting butterflies toxic to birds, a wonderful self-preservation trick.
Anyway, I digress, finding CHRYSALIS in the upper left corner was an easy start, but the other words were more of a challenge – not as big as a small insect traveling 3,000 miles, but a bit of a pain for a Wednesday morning commute.
Excellent marks also for a butterfly-shaped spangram.
