The local office of the National Party of Awami (ANP) near Badr Chowk in the city of Orangi in Karachi collapsed Wednesday after an explosion, injuring at least seven people, police said.
According to the West Tariq Mastoi SSP, the dilapidated building had been transformed into a local office for the ANP and was not used for residential purposes. The injured were identified as ANP workers who were inside the office at the time of the incident.
The rescue teams arrived quickly by hand on the site. They recovered seven injured from the rubble and transferred them to Abbasi Shaheed hospital.
According to Chhipa’s spokesperson Shahid Chaudhry, one of the 34-year-old injuries, suffered burns, while others were injured by debris.
The first results suggest that the explosion was triggered when a ceiling fan switch was on, lighting an explosion from a suspected gas leak. “Although the exact cause is determined after a more in -depth investigation,” said SSP Mastoi.
Video surveillance images have shown a flash of fire followed by an explosion tearing the structure and launching debris in the street.
The bomb elimination team and the unit of crime places were called on the site.
