- A bug in iOS 18.4 arrested AirPods Max promised to update without work loss
- Apple solved the problem with the 7E101 firmware
- You will need your iPhone, iPad or Mac and your load cable
What do you call an Apple update that doesn’t work? Tim cooking! I did this joke myself and I am very proud of it, but it is time to become serious now: the Audio Airpods Max without loss update was about to get started, did not work properly, was delayed and now works and ready to install it.
The problem was with iOS 18.4, the latest version of iOS, which contained the code necessary to update your AirPods Max. Unfortunately, this code did not work properly and the update was not downloaded. Apple solved the problem and also provided useful instructions on how to update your headphones.
How to install the loss audio update on your airpods max
Here are the instructions, directly from Apple.
- Make sure your iPhone, iPad or Mac is updated to the latest version of iOS, iPados or MacOS, and that Bluetooth is on
- Make sure your airpods max are connected via Bluetooth to your iPhone, iPad or Mac
- Connect your iPhone, iPad or Mac to Wi-Fi
- Connect the charging cable into the headphones at the bottom right, then connect the other end of the cable to a USB charger or a port
- Keep your airpods max in the Bluetooth range of your iPhone, iPad or Mac, and wait at least 30 minutes for the firmware updated
- Reconnect your maximum airpods to your iPhone, iPad or Mac
- Check the firmware version again and make sure it lists “7e101”
I am glad that this update has been corrected, because it is welcome for the owners of the USB-C Airpods Max: once installed, you can obtain an audio without loss on USB-C so that your airpods sound even better, and to finally be able to use them with plane entertainment systems.
We will test the functionality to see if it seems as good as that, uh, sounds them. For the moment, we can tell you that (after a little more than half an hour) our Airpods Max are definitely now on the new version of the 7E101 firmware, so this part is good.
