Canadian ice hockey star Tom Wilson was ejected from Sunday’s game against France for fighting with defenseman Pierre Crinon at the Winter Olympics.

The two men exchanged blows in the third period of the preliminary round after Crinon hit Canadian center Nathan MacKinnon with an elbow to the head a few minutes earlier. Crinon received a two-minute penalty for the hit and apologized to MacKinnon for the hit.

But the two players found themselves in the shower before the end of the match. Players do not receive five-minute major penalties for fighting in the Olympics. Instead, they were both kicked out of the game.

Wilson had a goal and an assist in the game, completing what is known as the “Gordie Howe hat trick.”

The 31-year-old Washington Capitals player is one of the few new players on Team Canada who wasn’t part of last year’s 4 Nations faceoff squad. The tournament featured players from Team USA and Canada trading blows nine seconds into their match.
