The U.S. men’s speed skating team won a silver medal Tuesday at the 2026 Milan Cortina Games, finishing just behind Italy in the team pursuit competition.
The team of Ethan Cepuran, Casey Dawson and Emery Lehman finished with a time of 3:43.71 and was good enough for second place in the event. The Italian team, made up of Davide Ghiotto, Andrea Giovannini and Michele Malfatti, won the gold medal with a time of 3:39.20.

This time around, the United States started well against Italy, but the Italians took the lead in the final rounds.
This is the second team pursuit medal for Cepuran, Dawson and Lehman. They were on the team with Joey Matia at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. The trio set a team pursuit world record in November with a time of 3:32.49.

Cepuran, Dawson and Lehman had hoped their team efforts would be enough to win the gold medal. They had previously acknowledged that they were not the strongest skaters, but knew that they were a great team. Dawson withdrew from the Olympic 10,000 meters last week to focus on the team pursuit.

China won a bronze medal in this event, ahead of the Netherlands. Liu Hanbin, Wu Yu and Li Wenhao helped the team finish in third place.
