The head of the opposition of the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, announced that his party would present concerns concerning the general elections of 2024 and the 26th constitutional amendment before the delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“We will present the whole question of elections before the IMF delegation,” said Ayub. “We will also highlight the problems caused by the 26th amendment.”
His comments arise while a delegation of the IMF of six members arrived at the Supreme Court for a meeting with the chief judge Yahya Afridi.
On Sunday, the Financial Minstry confirmed that an IMF mission would go to Pakistan to carry out a governance and corruption diagnostic assessment within the framework of the prolonged fund of the country 2024.
The ministry added that the report will recommend actions to combat vulnerabilities of corruption and strengthening integrity and governance, noting that the results would help shape structural reforms.
“The objective of the mission will be to examine the severity of the vulnerabilities of corruption in six basic state functions. These include budgetary governance, governance and operations of the central bank, financial sector surveillance, market regulations, law of law and AML-CFT, ” indicated the ministry in the press release.
Pakistan, currently reinforced by an installation of $ 7 billion in the IMF granted in September, is sailing in an economic recovery. The IMF should examine Pakistan’s progress by March, the government and the central bank expressing the confidence in achieving its objectives.
