Timothée Chalamet’s “One Battle After Another” wins film of the year

Timothée Chalamet’s latest awards season gained new momentum Sunday night as One battle after another became one of the biggest winners at the 46th annual London Critics’ Circle Film Awards in London.

The film won the prestigious Film of the Year award, capping an intense evening in which Paul Thomas Anderson was also recognized as both Director of the Year and Screenwriter of the Year.

Sean Penn added to the film’s success by winning the Supporting Actor award, further cementing his dominance at the ceremony.

Chalamet, who happened to be in the British capital this weekend to take part in question-and-answer sessions for Marty Supremewas named actor of the year.

It’s a return to the top for the actor, who last won the same honor in 2018 for Call me by your name.

The timing made this win particularly fitting, as it balanced award recognition and promotion of his latest work.

On the acting side, Jessie Buckley won Actress of the Year for her performance in Hamnet, while Amy Madigan won Best Supporting Actress for Weapons.

Elsewhere, Netflix’s Kpop Demon Hunters was also recognized, winning what was described as one of its few major honors in the UK, despite not being BAFTA eligible.

The evening also included special career honors.

Cynthia Erivo received the Derek Malcolm Award for Innovation, celebrating her extensive work through films including Widows, Harriet, Bad times at the El Royale and the Wicked movies.

Guillermo del Toro received the Dilys Powell Award for Cinematic Excellence, recognizing his lasting impact on cinema.

The London Critics’ Circle Film Awards are voted for by the 207 members of the Film section of the Critics’ Circle, the UK’s oldest and most respected critics’ organisation, adding extra weight to the accolades awarded.

With One battle after another In winning Film of the Year and Actor of the Year for Chalamet, the ceremony highlighted both the film’s critical strength and the actor’s continuing position as one of the most celebrated performers of his generation.
