One person was killed and seven injured in an explosion near a passenger bus traveling from Khuzdar to Rawalpindi on Sunday, officials said.

The blast occurred on the M-8 highway when a passenger bus traveling from Khuzdar to Rawalpindi passed by a vehicle loaded with explosives, Express News reported.

Of the 13 passengers on board, eight injured, with one succumbing to their injuries.

Authorities shifted the body to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), while the injured are receiving treatment at the Khuzdar Trauma Center.

Levies officials confirmed the explosives were planted in a stationary vehicle on the side of the road, strategically targeting the passenger bus. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

Authorities are investigating the attack and enhanced security measures are expected to be implemented in the coming days.

The incident comes amid an increase in violence in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where militant activities have intensified in recent months.

Earlier this month, an explosion in Turbat killed four people and injured 32, with the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claiming responsibility.

According to the CRSS 2024 annual security report, last year was one of the deadliest in Pakistan’s recent history, with more than 2,500 violence-related deaths. Balochistan recorded 782 deaths, making it one of the hardest-hit regions in the country.
