Although the new look “ liquid glass ” and a much more powerful projector can be the main characteristics of MacOS Tahoe 26, I found that the transmission of a very popular iPhone feature turned out to be the highest point after weeks of testing.
Live activities fly the emission on the iPhone, thanks to their ganceability and their effortless way of highlighting key information, whether from a first or third party application. Some of my favorites are:
- Flighty displays the details of flight tracking in real time, for myself, family or friends
- Airlines like United show my headquarters, a countdown for boarding or even luggage complaint
- Carpooling applications tell you what type of car you are driving
- Apple Sports displays the live scores of your favorite teams in real time with the game
Now, all this happens on the Mac – just at the upper navigation bar, near the right side. They appear when your iPhone is nearby, connected to the same Apple account and reflects the same live activities that you would see on your phone. It is a simple but powerful addition.
Since Apple brought the iPhone iPhone to Mac in 2024, this follow -up in 2025 is not surprising. But it is exactly the kind of small feature that makes a big difference. I loved being able to check a score, follow a flight or see my living position on an airplane – without fishing my phone.
I used it a lot at my office, but for me it really shines in economy class. If you have already tried to balance an iPhone and a MacBook Pro – or even a MacBook Air – on a tray table, you know the clumsy overlap. I usually end up supporting the iPhone against my screen, suspending it with the palm, or simply throwing it on my knees. With live activities on the Mac, I can stick to a device and keep the tray table without congestion.
Since the notifications are already synchronized, the iPhone Mirring arrived last year, live activities were ultimately the missing room. On MacOS Tahoe, they are carefully collapsed in the menu bar, just like the dynamic island on the iPhone, and you can click on one to develop and see full activity. Another click on one of these live activities quickly opens the application to your iPhone via the mirror application – everything works together in a fairly transparent way.
You can also reject them easily, because I have found that they are developing automatically for major updates, saving screen real estate on your Mac. If you already have a live activity that you really appreciate on your iPhone, there is really no additional work necessary for the developer, because they will repeat themselves automatically.
Overall, it is a small but super useful tool that really excels in cramped spaces. So, if you have already had trouble with the same balance as I have it with a tray table, your iPhone and a MacBook, know that the relief is on the way.
It arrives in the fall (September or October) with the release of MacOS Tahoe 26. If you wish earlier, the public beta version of MacOS Tahoe 26 is now available, but you will have to agree with bugs and slowdowns.
