HD3 highly rated HD3 office speakers have been released for some time now: the first generation launched in 2016, and the speaker and audio technology formats have changed a bit since then. Last year, Audioengine improved its biggest HD4 models to take advantage of some of the most recent developments, and now it is done with the more compact HD3.
Like the previous model, the new HD3 Next Gen Audioengine speakers (2025) are again designed to sit on a desk or a shelf, and they are particularly well suited to listening to the near field with laptops and office computers.
But now they have integrated Bluetooth with Aptx HD, as well as a powerful helmet amp. And they also received a large high resolution audio upgrade.
Audioengine HD3 Next Gen (2025): Key characteristics and price
The new HD3 Next Gen Audioengine speakers (2025) have an upgraded DAC, which is 24 bit rather than 16 bits, and they also have a sound without loss of input USB-C-so that they can connect directly to the USB-C port and draw the sound of the highest quality than the best music streaming services have to offer.
The headphone amplifier is an OPA2134 high speed amplifier, output up to 380 MW in 32 ohms.
The frequency response is 65 Hz to 22 kHz (the largest HD4 is lower in the bass), which should be good for narrow listening without requiring an additional high blow, and listening in the near field is of course what these speakers were designed. If you want a submarine, the six-inch subwoofer of audioengine descends to a more underground 33Hz.
The integrated amplifier is an analog AB class amplifier with a 30W peak per channel, rather than the more traditional class D amplification that you are waiting for here – this has the potential to make them more dynamic and sharper in detail.
The speakers are a 2.75-inch woofer and a 0.75 inch tweeter per loudspeaker. Cabinets are real wood, not MDF, and there are improved finishes in shiny piano in white, in real nut placing and satin black.
Given their small size and their excellent specifications, these resemble interesting potential candidates for our list of the best stereo speakers with regard to something compact and active. We can’t wait to test them.
Audioengine HD3 Next Gen is available in the United States for $ 359 and S6 Sub is $ 299. The United Kingdom and other prices and availability have not yet been announced, but the HD3 price operates before tax at £ 267 / $ 550 in.
