Of the world of John Wick: BallerinaThe director revealed that the combat sequence was the most difficult to film.
Addressing Techradar before BallerinaThe release of June 6, Len Wiseman admitted that “one of the most difficult moments” of all the shooting is the one that the public will not expect either.
Complete spoilers immediately follow For the action thriller led by Ana de Armas. Do not do unless you have looked at him.
Okay, what set caused the most headache? This has nothing to do with the lethal sequence of the third act. The Brawl of the Night Box of Act 1, a must in the John Wick film series, was not as trying as the scene Wiseman has in mind either.
According to the filmmaker behind one of the new films in June 2025, the most difficult time to capture was part of the Alpine Duel restaurant between the Macarro Eve ‘Eve and a member of the cult led by the Chancellor of Gabriel Byrne. The reason it was so difficult? The plates, with which Eve and his combat comrades attack a sequence inducing a sly smile, continued to break when they should not have.
“The restaurant’s fight is one of my favorites because there were a lot of important history beats that landed, and it was incredibly fun to shoot,” said Wiseman.
“But the plaques sequence was one of the most difficult moments to film. These are broken plates, so they have a job [to break upon impact without hurting the actors]And they do it well.
“The problem is that when you pick them up, they break immediately. So they [the actors] I had to gently recover each and bring them back to their opponent with real strength. The number of times they have caught a plate and they would break … I have lost the account of the number of times we had to stick them together. I remember that the accessories department asked me if 100 plates would be enough, and I said “yeah”. Well, we crossed the 100 plates several times, so you can imagine in what state they were in which we are finished! “”
Naturally, each action sequence in the fourth film John Wick (chronologically, in any case – read my guide John Wick in Order for more details) came with its own set of challenges. Who included the tête-à-tête between Eve and the iconic emblematic hitman of Keanu Reeves, which takes place in BallerinaFinal act.
“It was an incredible day on the set,” said Wiseman about the filming of the confrontation between Eve and the assassin holding the franchise.
“It is a moment in the film which is really fun and tense, but we were well aware that we had to make sure that there was a balance in the fight. John Wick is the so-called Baba Yaga, and although he was more experienced and competent than Eve, we did not want her to feel up to her own film. Fight who has a meaning.”
