OpenAI adds access to “business insights” to ChatGPT for Business, Enterprise, and Edu users, allowing the popular AI tool to connect with third-party tools like Slack, SharePoint, Google Drive, and GitHub, so the chatbot can provide more personalized responses for your business.
The company’s insights are powered by a version of GPT-5’s reasoning capabilities, so they can draw comparisons from multiple sources, and as we expect when it matters most, ChatGPT will also cite sources to improve confidence.
After making connections, users can access company knowledge via a separate button in the message compose area.
ChatGPT empowers business users with business insights
“The company’s insights have changed the way I use ChatGPT at work more than anything we’ve built to date,” explained COO Brad Lightcap.
OpenAI claims that enterprise knowledge will ultimately lead to breaking down silos where workers can combine multiple knowledge pools from across the enterprise to create more informed outcomes.
The tool was primarily designed to make client reporting, planning, research and preparation easier, removing all the time-consuming manual processes that workers currently have to follow.
OpenAI stressed that existing privacy permissions are respected by the company’s knowledge tool and that “OpenAI never trains on your data by default.” All usual security, compliance and control systems also remain in place, in accordance with organizational policies.
When third-party apps are linked, ChatGPT can still reference them for certain knowledge snippets, but to call on enterprise knowledge for more detailed reporting, users will need to manually select the toggle.
The company also pointed out that enabling Company Knowledge effectively disables Internet access to force ChatGPT to cite these sources, so there is no web searching or charting/image creation in this mode.
“You can turn it off and continue working in the same conversation to use these features, while retaining your existing context,” OpenAI explained. These two experiences, however, should become more aligned and integrated over the coming months.
