Chatgpt projects feature has been a useful way to organize conversations with the Chatbot AI since he made his debut, but he had his limits. A major set of upgrades published by Openai this week transformed the projects of a simple file folder into a very targeted version of Chatgpt as a whole.
The functionality of the projects made its debut as a way to organize cats and related files in a digital shoe box. But now this organization means that Chatgpt will remember that these cats and files are linked. So, if you start a cat in a project, AI will remember the things of other cats of this project, referring to your messages in the same workspace.
If you are starting a new project, you can download your notes, discuss the subject with Chatgpt, ask for comparisons online, then come back three days later to continue the conversation without reworking everything or having the IA quote unrelated discussions. Chatgpt will not remember the subjects either. It will remember your formatting preferences, as well as your voice tone.
And these can be much more complex conversations now than projects include the deep search tool, which allows you to perform tasks in several steps in the Chatppt, mixing your files and your instructions with live information on the web.
You can also use Chatgpt vocal mode in projects. Press the microphone in any project and start talking about the files inside or anything else, and you will see it appear. And if you use the mobile application, you can now download files directly and switch between GPT-4O or other models on the fly.
Other upgrades are more minor but always significant. For example, if you have a project that you do not want to share in its entirety, but that it includes a particular chatgpt conversation that you want to send to someone, you can do it now. And if a discussion with Chatgpt suddenly inspires you to start a project, you can now drag it directly into a project folder or convert it instantly from the sidebar.
Not everyone can use improved projects features. You must be a more or professional chatgpt subscriber for the moment. However, on the basis of many other Chatgpt features which were once exclusive to subscribers, I would not be surprised if they become accessible to free users at some point in the future.
AI project power
As impressive as Chatgpt projects could be now, I would not expect to see the offices throwing their notion or their Trello programs anytime soon. They still do not have some of the common elements of these tools, such as calendars. But, for personal or simply smaller efforts, it is a good improvement by the AI assistant, who could at least help open Openai to compete with IA perfusions, Google added to its ecosystem.
Openai has been clear that they don’t just want to be a chatbot supplier. They want to be your go-to for life and work. These upgrades resemble the first sketches of something more ambitious. Openai could one day Pitch Chatgpt as an alternative to the rocking between ten applications. Instead, you could one day open the Chatppt and say: “Take again where we stopped during the next work presentation.”
A little experimentation on my part revealed that improved projects seemed more effective almost immediately, but not without a few hiccups. A large collection of conversations that I organized to test other features was a little too eager to flirt with initial interactions rather than drawing more recent discussions on chatgpt capabilities. And although projects can now reference past cats, real research and navigation between these cats are still not perfect. There is not yet a Boolean logic to isolate certain sentences, so you may have to scroll to find what you are looking for.
However, even with the inevitable friction, I can see the value of making the projects more of a source of data from AI self-organized AI, rather than simply a file of files for documents, as was. That research, data analysis or tracing the perfect part could make the use of Chatppt much less chaotic.
