OPENAI and the British government have signed a memorandum of understanding within the framework of a plan to “maintain an ecosystem of the AI of the world head anchored in democratic values”.
The agreement will see Openai Explore investments in the British AI infrastructure, including data centers and AI growth areas, which could level the playground through the United Kingdom with Sites in Scotland and Wales.
Thanks to the memorandum of understanding, the British government hopes to deploy AI through justice, defense, education and public services to improve efficiency.
The British government doubles on AI
Openai technology is already the basis of a certain number of British government tools, including the Humphrey improved by Chatgpt for public service workers and the GPT 4o-improvement consultation for the development of policies.
The secretary of British technology, Peter Kyle, praised the collaboration with the IA company in the world head: “The AI will be fundamental to stimulate the change that we must see through the country – whether in the repair of the NHS, by decomposing the obstacles to the opportunity or by stimulating economic growth.”
“Great Britain has a strong heritage of scientific leadership and its government was one of the first to recognize the potential of AI through its Action Plan of IA opportunities,” added the CEO of Openai, Sam Altman.
The United Kingdom has already undertaken to invest “up to 500 million pounds sterling” to support sovereign AI, and has wider plans described in its IA opportunities plan that stipulates that the United Kingdom is the third AI market in the world behind the United States and China.
In the future, AI growth areas will facilitate the construction and deployment of AI centers through priority access to sustainable energy sources and a combination of public and private partnerships.
More broadly, Openai also plans to increase its presence in the United Kingdom by expanding its office imprint in London – its first international office.
