Opposition alliance backs PTI demands

ISLAMABAD:

An alliance of opposition parties – Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Ain – urged the PML-N-led government to establish better relations with all neighboring countries, especially Afghanistan, while endorsing the Charter demands presented by the PTI during its discussions with the government.

At an alliance meeting held in the federal capital on Thursday, PTI negotiating committee chief Omar Ayub took other alliance members into confidence in the talks process.

The meeting included discussions on the future strategy of the alliance. The participants agreed to intensify contacts with other political parties, including the Pakistan Awaam Party, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Sherani and the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA).

Leaders of allied parties approved the Charter of Demands of the PTI Negotiating Committee.

Later, PTI’s Zartaj Gul said vigorous protests, both inside and outside Parliament, would be held to demand the release of political prisoners, including PTI founder Imran Khan.

Discussions also focused on relations with neighboring countries, including Afghanistan.

PTI’s Asad Qaiser stressed the need for effective diplomacy to improve relations with Afghanistan and create a peaceful environment in the region. He stressed the need for measures also aimed at strengthening trade with Afghanistan.

Qaiser welcomed the ceasefire in Gaza, describing it as a positive development. “Despite global support, Israel has failed to achieve its goals in Palestine,” he added.
