Opposition parties are planning to convene an all-party conference (APC) in February to deliberate on crucial political, economic, constitutional and security issues, sources revealed on Monday.
Opposition leaders advocate a united platform of democratic forces to address the pressing challenges facing the nation.
The alliance has defined its agenda as prioritizing constitutional supremacy and the restoration of the rule of law.
According to insiders, the APC is expected to invite stakeholders from various sectors, including legal experts, academics, farmers and civil society representatives, thereby ensuring in-depth dialogue on national issues.
The alliance also contacted political leaders, including former Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, to discuss the APC’s proposal.
In recent days, the opposition has intensified consultations with different parties and leaders to find viable solutions to the country’s current crisis.
Sources indicate in particular that the opposition could contact the former leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Fawad Chaudhry, to urge him to join the alliance.
Although Chaudhry has not yet decided to join the PTI, his potential involvement in the opposition alliance could strengthen efforts to counter the government.
The APC, if it materializes, aims to address the alleged mismanagement of the government that the opposition accuses of being responsible for the country’s current crises and provide concrete solutions to put Pakistan on a corrective path.
Mustafa Khokhar joins hands with PTI-led alliance
Former PPP senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar on Tuesday announced his decision to join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led opposition alliance Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Aeen Pakistan (TTAP).
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad alongside PTI leader Omar Ayub and other leaders of the alliance, Khokhar expressed gratitude to TTAP for the in-depth discussions held on the nation’s challenges and ongoing crises.
“Our discussions covered a range of issues, including terrorism, economy and national integrity,” said Khokhar, who is also a former spokesperson for PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
He said it was imperative to work together in the difficult times facing the nation. “The burden of these crises is borne by the population, with more than 15 million people falling below the poverty line over the past year,” he added.
Khokhar stressed the urgent need to save the country from political instability, accusing the current PML-N-led government of exacerbating the crises. “The government has lent its support to aggravate these crises, a situation without precedent in our history.”
Declaring his commitment to working with TTAP, Khokhar called for a national agenda focused on restoring the rule of law and the Constitution. “This broader interest will include civil society and all stakeholders,” he added.
