Opposition resolutions rejected in Palestinian Authority

KARACHI:

The Sindh Assembly, in its session on Tuesday, chaired by Deputy Speaker Naveed Anthony, rejected a resolution moved by the opposition on the occasion of the Members’ Day regarding the establishment of a committee to improve the quality of education in the province.

The House also rejected the opposition’s resolution regarding corruption and irregularities in the Sindh Public Service Commission. However, the resolution presented by the female member of the MQM regarding the establishment of an autism center and an autism treatment training center was unanimously approved.

During the proceedings of the House, it was also decided that Pakistan Peoples Party member Heer Soho’s adjournment motion regarding unannounced power load shedding in Sindh would be discussed for two hours next Friday.

During the question-and-answer session, Opposition Leader Ali Khursheed expressed his displeasure after not getting a satisfactory response from Social Welfare Minister Tariq Talpur. He said the PPP was in power in Sindh for 16 years.

MQM member Rashid Khan presented a resolution regarding allegations of corruption and irregularities in the Sindh Public Service Commission. Opposing the resolution, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar said the issue had been discussed. Many matters in this regard are implemented as directed by the court.

MQM member Amir Siddiqui presented his private resolution regarding the establishment of a provincial education standards commission.

This resolution was also opposed by the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, saying that the Sindh Education Policy Commission already exists in the province, so why is there a need to create another one?

MPA Fauzia Hameed introduced a resolution to establish an autism center and an autism treatment training center, which was unanimously approved with the support of government and opposition members.

Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho said it was an important issue and the resolution would be a gift to children suffering from autism, as well as their families. According to her, these children can also benefit from vocational training.

During the question and answer session, Provincial Minister for Social Welfare Tariq Talpur responded to various written and supplementary questions from members and told the House that his department was monitoring the activities of NGOs. There is a procedure for providing financial assistance to NGOs and disciplinary measures are taken against NGOs involved in illegal activities or corruption.

MQM member Taha Ahmed asked the minister to highlight five projects that the Sindh government can be proud of.

Provincial Minister for Social Welfare Tariq Talpur said that we are working in Karachi with ANF and we are also doing good work in other districts. Apart from this, the department also works for transgenders.
