It would be a sin to give the Oscar to someone else
But let’s not forget Sinners leading the way with an incredible 16 nominations. Sixteen!
To put that into perspective, this is the most nominations in Oscar history, not one but two, although it does include a new Best Acting category, but it’s incredible. One film that came out away from the typical awards season window toward the end of the year and about bloody vampires is the Oscar FRONTRUNNER.
However, despite this and perhaps due to the unstoppable weight that One Battle After Another carried for most of awards season with 13 nominations, it also managed to position itself as the scrappy underdog.
Cards on the table
Here are my predictions so you can hold me accountable later…
Best Actor – Timothée Chalamet
Best Original Music – Ludwig Göransson
One sinner after another
Since the year of Barbenheimer, two films have never completely dominated the Oscar conversation. A battle after a sinner? One sinner after another? Hmmmm, there isn’t really a good portmanteau for them…
It’s pretty much conventional wisdom that Sinners or One Battle After Another will take home the big awards for film, director, writing, and some of the other acting categories.
