The winner of the Oscars, Troy Kotsur, discussed his latest role in the new Netflix series Black rabbit.
The actor, who marked the story in 2022 as the first deaf artist to win an Oscars for Coda, now plays the boss of the Gang Joe Mancuso.
In an interview People magazineKotsur shared that he hopes that his last role will open doors for deaf actors in Hollywood.
He said, “I’m sure people in the audience really never saw a gangster who is deaf. It was really fun and exciting for me to create this character.”
“It was really fun for me to develop this character, a new catch and a new perspective. It will open new roles in the future, I hope. We are not only actors who use sign language, we are characters and we can play all the different types of characters,” he added.
Kotsur then added his role, “each scene, my goal was that the public felt emotion.”
“What I was trying to do was staying simple. The less it is more. I am happy to have tackled things in this way and stay in control in these extremely emotional scenes. Because Joe Mancuso is the boss, he did not want to be too upset or above. He had to keep under control and be aware of his power at any time,” said Kotsur.
In particular, Troy Kotsur Black rabbit is presenting on Netflix.
