- Same general design as before, but two new colors
- Retuned for improved audio performance
- Guilt-free with 100% fairly mined metals
Sustainable tech company Fairphone has revealed a new version of its eco-friendly earbuds – and we’ve already tested them in our in-depth review of the Fairbuds XL 2025.
The basic design of the friendly first set of 2023 hasn’t changed, so the joystick control we loved so much in the original is still present – and still delicious.
The drivers are also the same 40mm versions as before, but the new version has been retuned to improve the audio. We didn’t notice a huge difference, but warmer sounds seemed a bit more convincing. And with aptX HD, you can get ultra-high quality streaming from compatible phones and other devices.
There are two new colors – forest green and horizon black – and battery life is promised at 30 hours of continuous listening.
Fairbuds XL: stronger durability for a reasonable price
The main selling point of Fairphone products isn’t really the technology; it’s sustainability and environmental responsibility. And that’s improved in these new releases: their cobalt, copper, and silver are 100% fairly mined, their rare earth elements are 100% recycled, and they’re assembled using 100% renewable energy – all firsts for Fairphone audio products.
The new Fairbuds XL are also LONGTIME certified, with the previous two-year warranty being increased to three years. And they’re designed modularly, meaning you should be able to replace batteries when they reach the end of their life or repair accidental damage instead of sending your headphones to the landfill.
The Fairbuds XL are available now at a recommended retail price of £219/$299 (around AU$439).
