PA is looking for a bicameral system in Punjab

Lahore:

The Punjab assembly, with a majority vote, adopted a resolution requiring an amendment to the Constitution to establish a parliamentary system in Punjab similar to the National Assembly and the Senate at the federal level.

The resolution, presented jointly by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in power and its Pakistani peoples Allied (PPP) party, stressed the massive population of Punjab, declaring that among 171 countries, only 11 nations have a larger population than the Pundjab.

Given this demographic size, the resolution underlined the need for a broader representation of experts and professionals in administrative matters and decision -making.

Although the current constitutional framework does not provide such a system, the Chamber has urged the federal government to introduce the necessary amendments to allow Punjab to have a parliamentary system like the Federation.

In a separate resolution, the legislators unanimously condemned the recent attack on Bannu and expressed their unwavering support for the Armed Forces of Pakistan, recognizing their sacrifices in the maintenance of national security.

The procedure of the Chamber began three hours and 50 minutes late, which caused strong reactions from the cash and opposition benches, especially since many members on an empty stomach.

At the start of the session, opposition legislators entered the assembly, singing slogans in favor of the founding president of PTI, Imran Khan.

Due to the absence of the parliamentary secretary, the planned question and answer session has been postponed.

The PPP MPA, Shazia Abid, accused Punjab police of having harassed family members and even holding her son, demanding 200,000 rupees for his release.

The revelation triggered indignation through the lines of the parties, the legislators condemning the incident. In response, Vice-President Zaheer Iqbal Channer referred the case to the Privileges Committee and summoned the police officer concerned of the police (SP) concerned by March 12, ordering him to submit a report to the Chamber.

Opposition legislators castigated the provincial government for its lack of complete policies to support farmers, warning of an imminent wheat crisis. They also demanded the immediate activation of the Southern Punjab Secretariat, arguing that despite billions spent for its construction, the installation remains non -functional.

They insisted that making the operational secretariat would help resolve the grievances of more than 40 million people in southern Punjab.

During the procedure, Vice-President Channer postponed a resolution submitted by Shoaib Siddiqi of IPP, which asked for approval for the construction of a five-star hotel inside the Gaddafi stadium to respond to the disadvantages of the public during cricket events.

The resolution was delayed until Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) provides an official response.

After finishing the agenda of the day, Vice-President Channer adjourned the house until March 12 at 11:00 am.
