Islamabad:
On Wednesday, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) discovered several differences and irregularities on Wednesday while examining the audit parasss of the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
During the meeting, it was revealed that many students who received HEC scholarships for higher education abroad did not return. In addition, buildings were built at Quaid-Ezam University without obtaining the approval of the authorities concerned.
The meeting took place with the president of the CAP, Junaid Akbar Khan, on the president. The meeting was informed that 89 of the 92 Fulbright scholarships in the United States were canceled, while the executive director of the Che said that 96 researchers had remained in their host country instead of returning.
The president ordered the authorities to take measures against students who traveled abroad on HEC scholarships but who did not return, declaring that instead of studying, they have taken jobs. He said that business should be deposited against these students and that their passports have been canceled.
The president of the CAP has also raised concerns concerning the blackmail of students for better grades, highlighting the need for discipline in the rating system. He suggested that the same teacher who had prepared the examination document should not be responsible for the classification, because this practice made it possible to blackmail.
Audit officials told the meeting that three buildings, including an inn of girls, had been built at Quaid-Ezam University without the approval of the construction plan by the Authority Capital Development (CDA).
With regard to the audit objection concerning the delay in the creation of the engineering installation at the University of Karakoram, the auditor general declared to the committee that the cost of the project increased from RS2.10 billion due to the delay.
