Lahore: The arrangements for a series of tri-nations involving Pakistan, Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates entered their last stages, with an official announcement expected after the meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), sources announced on Thursday.

According to the initiates, discussions concerning the series will be finalized on the sidelines of ACC sessions. The complete calendar and the premises are likely to be revealed once the meeting ends.

Sources have also indicated that the tri-series will be held in the water before the Asian 2025 Cup.

Initially, Pakistan was to welcome Afghanistan in a bilateral series in August. However, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) proposed to convert the series to a tri-nation event and move it to water.

The goal of hosting the water series is to help players adapt to the conditions before the Asian Cup.

It should be noted that the ACC annual general meeting (AGM) should take place in Bangladesh today, with an overwhelming majority of member countries confirming participation.

Of the 25 members of the ACC, 24 confirmed their attendance, far exceeding the required quorum of 13 in what is hailed as a major diplomatic success for the president of the Naqvi ACC Mohin.

Despite the initial resistance of the Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI), SRI Lanka Cricket (SLC) and Oman Cricket on the site, Naqvi’s persistent efforts have assured that AGA will take place as planned in the capital of Bangladesh.

Significantly, India is also participating in Reunion virtually, the Vice-President of the BCCI, Rajeev Shukla, is expected to attend a marked change compared to the previous position of the council.
