Prime Minister Shehbaz and Australian High Commissioner Tim Kane discuss coordination in agriculture, livestock and mining

Australia’s new High Commissioner, Tim Kane, met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on December 19, 2025. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs, Tariq Fatemi.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the High Commissioner on his appointment and expressed confidence that his tenure would strengthen the enduring relationship between Pakistan and Australia.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed sadness over the loss of innocent lives in the terrorist shooting at Bondi Beach, Sydney on December 14, 2025 and said Pakistan unequivocally condemns the attack. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with Australia during this period of mourning, saying terrorism has no religion and must be condemned in all its forms. He also stressed the need for collective action to eliminate the terrorist threat.

Welcoming the positive trajectory of Pakistan-Australia relations, Prime Minister Shehbaz highlighted the need to expand bilateral trade and investment and expressed the desire to strengthen cooperation in the agriculture and livestock sectors. He highlighted Australia’s interest in the mining and minerals sector and cited Reko Diq as an example of potential opportunities in Pakistan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz highlighted the importance of the strong cultural and bilateral ties between Pakistan and Australia, particularly their shared passion for cricket.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister conveyed his best wishes to Australian leaders and said he looked forward to further strengthening ties between the two countries.
