Pakistan calls for a permanent Gaza ceasefire at UNSC

Pakistan has again put pressure on the United Nations Security Council to demand an immediate, unconditional and permanent cease-fire in Gaza on Friday.

Addressing the council, the permanent representative of Pakistan at the UN Asim Iftikhar Ahmed reaffirmed the “unshakable support” of Islamabad for the Palestinian law for self -determination and exhorted the end of Israeli military operations.

He said that Pakistan “is resistant to humanity, justice and international law”, noting that Gaza civilians remain under bombing and implacable blockade, with hungry children, destroyed hospitals and families without food, medicine and shelters.

Ahmed stressed that Pakistan is resistant to the majority of council members and the wider membership of the United Nations to reflect the expectations of the international community for an urgent stop of fighting.

US VETORES Gaza ceasefire

Thursday in the United States, again exercised its veto and thwarted an appeal to the UN Security Council for a cease-fire in Gaza at the UN headquarters in New York, in the United States, protecting its ally Israel from significant diplomatic pressure.

The other 14 members of the Council supported the resolution, initiated in August in response to the official declaration of the UN famine after almost two years of Israel’s war against Hamas in Palestinian territory.

The vote came while the Israeli tanks and the jets have crossed Gaza City, the target of a new offensive on the ground, forcing the Palestinians to flee to the south.

Israel launched its long -awaited land offensive on Tuesday in Gaza, targeting Hamas activists and causing a generalized international alarm, not condemning it as “carnage”.

The United States has repeatedly rejected this approach several times, more recently in June when it used its veto to support Israel.

Since October 2023, Israeli attacks across Gaza have killed more than 65,000 people and injured 157,951, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in the enclave.

Last November, the International Criminal Court published arrest mandates against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Yoav Gallant Minister of Defense for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
