THE UNITED NATIONS:

As the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories remains dire despite the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas on October 10, Pakistan has called for measures to ensure compliance with the truce agreement to end the bloodshed, ensure humanitarian aid and pave the way for the reconstruction of Gaza.

“Israeli airstrikes have killed and injured civilians, including children; more than three hundred Palestinians are believed to have been killed since the ceasefire was announced,” Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, told the UN Security Council on Tuesday.

“This reveals a harsh truth: the peace declared in words has not yet brought complete protection and stability on the ground,” he said during a debate on the situation in the Middle East.

“Lives are still lost, homes are still demolished and families remain in fear,” the Pakistani envoy said, adding that settler violence in the West Bank had reached “unprecedented” levels.

“Entire communities have been displaced, particularly in the northern West Bank, due to closures, raids and increasing intimidation. » said Ambassador Asim Ahmad. Palestinians, he added, must be allowed to return home and communities must be able to function without constant fear.

Pakistan, he recalled, welcomed the initiative and personal commitment of US President Donald Trump and the proposals to end the war, rebuild Gaza, prevent displacement, promote comprehensive peace and end the annexation of the West Bank.

Throughout this period, Pakistan has engaged constructively, consistent with its long-standing and principled support for the Palestinian people and their inalienable rights.

“Pakistan has joined this process because it paves the way for self-determination and the creation of a Palestinian state,” the Pakistani envoy added.

“To ensure that efforts translate into progress, resolution 2803 (2025) must be implemented in good faith, including to advance Palestinian-led and Palestinian-owned governance,” he said.

Ambassador Asim Ahmad called for full respect of the ceasefire.
