Pakistan, China agrees to advance CPEC 2.0 with five new corridors

Pakistan and China reaffirmed their commitment on Thursday to advance bilateral cooperation as part of the improved Chinese-Pakistani economic corridor (CPEC 2.0), which includes five new corridors.

Understanding occurred at a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang. The two parties expressed their satisfaction with regard to the progress of their relations and undertook to work closely on the next CPEC phase.

PM Shehbaz is currently in China during an official six -day visit. He landed in Tianjin on August 30, where he attended the Shanghai cooperation organization (SCO).

During the today’s meeting, the two leaders also attended the ceremony for the exchange of understanding memorandums (soft) and agreements signed and announced between the two countries with regard to cooperation in the development of CPEC 2.0, science and technology, IT, the media, agriculture, etc.

The talks at the level of the delegation were followed by a sumptuous lunch, organized by the Chinese Prime Minister in honor of the Prime Minister and his delegation.

During their “warm and friendly” meeting, the Prime Minister expressed his deepest gratitude to the Chinese leaders and the nation for their flawless support for the territorial integrity of Pakistan, sovereignty and socio-economic development.

Based on the important consensus reached between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Shehbaz at their meeting on September 2, the two leaders reaffirmed their shared determination to further strengthen the strategic iron cooperative partnership and all times between Pakistan and China.

The Prime Minister also congratulated Chinese management for the successful accommodation of the SCO Council of Heads of State Summit in Tianjin and prolonged his congratulations to China on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the success of the Chinese people in the war of resistance and the anti-fascist war of the world.

Call tribute to the impressive transformation of China under the visionary leadership of President Xi Jinping, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan wanted to imitate China’s successes and build an increasingly close Pakistani-Chinese community with a common future.

He added that the tireless reform efforts of his government gave promising results, made possible thanks to the strong support of China.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also shared Pakistan’s intention to float soon on Panda’s obligations on the Chinese capital market.

On the economic front, the Prime Minister underlined the important contribution of the CPEC-a flagship project of the Belt and Road initiative of President XI (BRI), in the socio-economic development of Pakistan over the past decade, and highlighted the need for early implementation of the ML-I, KKH realignment and the operationalization of the Gwadar port.

Stressing the vast potential for cooperation and investment B2B, the first Pakistan informed its Chinese counterpart during the B2B investment conference which was held earlier during the day, where more than 300 Pakistani companies and 500 Chinese companies were present

He identified agriculture, mines and minerals, textiles, the industrial sector and priority areas for mutually beneficial economic collaboration.

The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s support for the historic initiatives of President Xi Jinping to strengthen multilateralism, in particular the global governance initiative, the global development initiative, the global security initiative as well as the global civilization initiative.
