Pakistan, China to advance the next CPEC phase with five corridors

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese President Xi Jinping reaffirmed their commitment to the Chinese-Pakistani Economic corridor on Tuesday (CPEC), agreeing to advance its next phase through five new corridors designed to extend cooperation in the main economic sectors.

During their meeting at the Great Salle of the People of Beijing, the two leaders stressed that the Pakistani-Chinese partnership was unique and unprecedented and agreed that this link should be reflected by increased cooperation in several areas.

Prime Minister Shehbaz has reaffirmed the desire to continue working in close collaboration with the successful implementation of the next improved CPEC phase, calling the project a flagship product of the Belt and Road initiative of President XI (BRI).

Shehbaz appreciated China’s unwavering support for territorial integrity, sovereignty and socio-economic development of Pakistan and said that CPEC would help the two nations to build an even stronger Pakistani-Chinese community with a common future.

President XI assured the Prime Minister that China would continue to help Pakistan in all areas of economic growth and development, especially since the second phase of the current CPEC.

Earlier in August, the two countries reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to high-quality development of the Chinese-Pakistani Economic Corridor (CPEC) improved during the 6th Strategic Dialogue between the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ishaq Dar and the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

The two parties examined the whole spectrum of Pakistani-Chinese relations, discussed the main regional and global problems and exchanged points of view in various areas of cooperation, including CPEC 2.0, trade and economic links, multilateral commitment and the exchanges of people to the person.

During a joint press participation, DAR underlined a complete unanimity between the two countries on the main bilateral, regional and global questions, adding that they were encouraged by the vision of Wang Yi to advance cooperation, in particular in the upgrading of the CPEC at its next phase.

Today, the two leaders have also examined wider bilateral relations and regional developments, agreeing to maintain close coordination on global and regional issues.

Prime Minister Shehbaz praised the visionary and transformative leadership of President XI who inspired China’s journey to modernization and progress, adding that “Pakistan was very proud of the achievements of China and would always be ready to work with China in this big trip.

Shehbaz congratulated President XI for the success of the SCO Council of Heads of State Summit in Tianjin and for the 80th anniversary of the World Anti-Fascist War.

The Prime Minister also expressed Pakistan support for the World initiatives of President XI, including the global governance initiative, the global development initiative, the global security initiative and the global civilization initiative, calling them contributions to regional and global regional and global development. Shehbaz said.

Shehbaz invited President Xi to undertake an official visit to Pakistan next year, when the two countries celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

The Prime Minister is in Beijing after attending the 25th meeting of the Board of State Heads of State in Tianjin.

During his stay, he will also participate in the anniversary of the World War Anniversary against Fascism and will address the Conference China-Pakistan Business To-Business.
