Pakistan closes airspace for two days amid Indian military exercises

Decision taken as a security measure linked to Indian military exercises carried out near the Pakistani border

Pakistan has decided to temporarily close parts of its border airspace with India for two days, citing precautionary measures amid Indian military exercises near the border. The move is a temporary security measure linked to Indian military exercises being conducted near the Pakistani border.

The closure will remain in effect on October 28 and 29, between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. The restriction applies to several air routes in the Karachi and Lahore flight information regions that connect to Indian airspace.

The Civil Aviation Authority has issued a Notice to Aviators to all airlines and aircraft operators, advising them to take necessary precautions and plan alternative flight paths during restricted hours.

Commercial and cargo flights transiting affected corridors are expected to experience minor delays or rerouting during the closure period, although normal operations will resume outside of the restricted period.

Meanwhile, the Airports Authority of Pakistan has initiated the implementation of a digital payment system at all airports in the country, in line with the government’s directives and the financial inclusion campaign of the State Bank of Pakistan.

The move aims to promote convenience for passengers, ensure transparent transactions and support the transition to a modern financial ecosystem.
