Pakistan condemns the Israeli raid on Gaza Aid Flatilla

Pakistan firmly condemned the interception by Israel of the world Flotilla of Sumud, describing action as a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.

In a statement on Thursday, Foreign Office (FO) said that the illegal detention of international activists aboard the flotilla ended up the lives of innocent civilians.

The flotilla, comprising more than 40 civilian ships and carrying around 500 international activists, was about to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the interception was part of the “attack model” in the course of Israel and its illegal blockade in Gaza, which caused immense human suffering for more than two million Palestinians. He added that the deliberate obstruction of humanitarian aid was a serious violation of the obligations of Israel as a power occupying under the fourth Geneva Convention.

Reiterating its position, Pakistan called for an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in all occupied Palestinian territories; Lifting the Gaza blocking; unhindered humanitarian access; Release of all activists aboard the flotilla; and the responsibility of the violations of Israel of international law.

The declaration reaffirmed the “inexpressible support and solidarity of Pakistan with the Palestinian people in their struggle for the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, sovereign and contiguous state of Palestine on the basis of the borders before 1967, with al-Quds al-Sharif as capital.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif firmly condemned what he called an “despicable attack” by Israeli forces on the Samud Gaza flotilla, a convoy of 40 ships carrying more than 450 humanitarian workers from 44 countries.

In a statement, the Prime Minister expressed his concern for those “illegally apprehended” by Israeli forces and called for their immediate release. “Their only crime was to help the unfortunate Palestinian,” he said.

Shehbaz added that “this barbarism must end”, asking that peace has a chance and humanitarian aid authorized to reach those who needed it.

Israeli forces have prevented 13 boats from transporting foreign activists and helping for Gaza, but 30 boats continue to go to the Palestinian enclave ravaged by the war, the fleeting organizers said on Thursday.

The Spanish Minister of Digital Transformation, Oscar Lopez, had urged the flotilla not to cross the declared exclusion zone of Israel, extending to 150 sea miles off Gaza.

“Our message to Flatilla has been clear: do not go into this area,” he said on Spanish public television, adding that the Spanish naval escort would not turn into the exclusion zone.

Israel blocked similar attempts in June and July.
