COAS calls Egypt ‘brotherly country’, says cooperation will help bring peace and stability to region
Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir is on an official visit to Egypt aimed at strengthening military cooperation and defense collaboration between the two countries, the army’s media wing said on Thursday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Munir met with Egyptian Minister of Defense and Defense Production General Abdul Maged Saqar and Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa Fatehi.
The statement added that the discussions focused on “issues of mutual interest, the regional security situation and bilateral defense cooperation.”
Marshal Munir described Egypt as “a brotherly country,” adding that “cooperation between the two states will not only benefit the people of the two nations, but also contribute to establishing peace and stability in the region.”
At the Defense Ministry, the Pakistani army chief was received with a guard of honor and then laid wreaths at the Unknown Soldier Memorial and at the tomb of former Egyptian President Mohamed Anwar Al-Sadat. As part of his engagements, Marshal Munir also met with Sheikh Ahmed El-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, at Mashaikhat Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, the statement added.
The grand imam shared his views on the challenges facing the Muslim world, while the Pakistani army chief stressed the need to counter “extremist ideologies and distorted interpretations of Islam.” The visit highlights the growing diplomatic and defense ties between Pakistan and Egypt, which have been developed through high-level exchanges and training cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries.
