Pakistan, India exchange prisoners in biannual exchange

Islamabad: Pakistan and India exchanged prisoners held in the other’s care on Monday, in accordance with the 2008 agreement on consular access, which requires the exchange of this information twice a year – January 1 and July 1.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Pakistan had delivered a list of Indian or raw prisoners from India, including 53 civilians and 193 fishermen, to a representative of the Indian High Commissioner of Islamabad.

In parallel, India has provided a list of 463 Pakistani or Pakistani prisoners – comprising 382 civilians and 81 fishermen – to a diplomat from the Pakistani High Commissioner in New Delhi.

Pakistan called for the immediate release and repatriation of all the Pakistani nationals who have finished their sorrows and whose nationality has been verified.

Islamabad has also requested special consular access to all raw prisoners from Pakistanis, including those with physical or mental health problems, to accelerate confirmation of their national status.

In its communication, Pakistan has also urged India to grant consular access to all prisoners who are still waiting for it and to ensure the security, security and well-being of all Pakistani detainees in police custody.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to prioritize humanitarian issues and confirmed its continuous efforts to ensure the early return of all Pakistani prisoners held in Indian prisons.
