Pakistan, Iranian military leaders promise joint action to secure borders

Pakistan and Iranian military leaders have undertaken to intensify efforts to eliminate terrorism and guarantee their common border, the Iranian Embassy of Islamabad said on Tuesday.

The chief of staff of the army (COAS), Marshal Asim Munir, and chief of staff of the Iranian armed forces, Major-General Abdolrahim Mousavi, discussed the cooperation in terms of security during a telephone conversation.

Echoing the call for the guarantee of common borders, Munnir said that the two countries must “jointly transform the Pakistani-Iranian border into a border of friendship, fraternity and economic development”.

In May, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif undertook a two -day visit to Iran as part of his regional tour in friendly nations, aimed at expressing his gratitude for their support during the conflict with India. During the visit, he met the supreme chief Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei and President Pezeshkian.

Discussions focused on strengthening Pakistani-Iranian relations, with particular emphasis on improving trade and regional connectivity. The two parties also addressed wider regional problems and recognized Iran’s efforts to promote peace during the war imposed in Pakistan by India.

Earlier in August, Iranian President Massud Pezeshkian went to Pakistan during his first official visit since he assumed the office and after the 12 -day war between Iran and Israel in June.
