Pakistan is condemning the Israeli strike on Qatar at UNHCR

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OCI) strongly condemned the Israeli military aggression against Qatar on September 9. The OIC said, Israel has violated international law and the United Nations Charter and has constituted a dangerous escalation, threatening human rights in the region.

“This unjustifiable and not caused attack constitutes a dangerous escalation, threatening human rights and an attack on sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of the State of Qatar, under the pretext of countering terrorism,” the statement added.

The OIC expressed its solidarity with Qatar and has supported “all the stages it can take to protect its security and sovereignty in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations”.

Pakistan Ambassador Bilal Ahmad, whose country was one of those who led the appeal to the urgent debate, warned that “this unjustifiable and uninsured attack is a dangerous escalation”.

Speaking on behalf of the OIC during an urgent debate at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva on Tuesday, Ahmad said the group had welcomed the session and thanked the Minister of State for Qatar for international cooperation Maryam Bint Ali Bin Nasser Al Misnad for his speech.

“The Oci condemns the strongest of the Israeli aggression against Qatar on September 9, 2025 in flagrant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter,” he added.

He said the attack has undermined the mediation process that Qatar organized with regional and international partners to combat the humanitarian crisis in the occupied Palestinian territory, in particular Gaza.

He called on the international community to “force Israel to arrest its dangerous and undergoing attacks in the region” and urged the United Nations Human Rights Council to ensure that it described as “series violations of international law” of Israel.

The press release added that Qatar mediation initiatives and other countries have offered a basis for “just and lasting regional peace with equality of rights and dignity for all peoples of the region, in particular the inhabitants of occupation in Palestine”.

Meanwhile, the United Nations and a long line of countries also denounced Israel’s attack on Qatar last week, denouncing a “dangerous escalation” and demanding “responsibility”.

This strike “was a shocking break in international law,” said the head of the United Nations Volker Turk during an urgent debate at the United Nations Human Rights Council on the strike.

Denouncing the attack as “an assault against regional peace and stability”, he urged “the responsibility of the illegal murders”. His words were taken over by Qatar and dozens of representatives of the country who spoke during the three -hour debate.

The Minister of International Cooperation Qatari Maryam Bint Ali Bin Nasser Al-Misnad criticized “the perfidious attack” of Israel and demanded that the international community “takes practical measures to hold responsible attackers and prevent their impunity”.

“This attack was not an isolated incident, but was rather part of a wider campaign aimed at distorting the role of Qatar and obstructing its diplomatic efforts,” she said.

The Council announced on Monday that it would convene the 10th urgent debate since its creation in 2006 following two official requests from the members of the OIC and the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Neither Israel nor its main ally the United States, which both disengaged from the Council earlier this year, were present for the urgent debate.

But Israel’s ambassador to Geneva Daniel Méron castigated the reunion of the touch. “This marks another shameful chapter of the ongoing violence of the Human Rights Council,” he told journalists.

He accused the council of “serving as an anti-Israeli propaganda platform, while ignoring the brutal realities on the ground and the atrocities committed by Hamas”. There was little support for the position of Israel during the debate.

The ambassador of the European Union, Deike Potzel, underlined the “position of principle of the block against terrorism in all its forms”, while emphasizing his “support for the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the Qatar” and by calling “Israel to respect international law”. “We urge all parties to refrain from all the actions that endangers mediation channels and regional stability,” she said.

China’s ambassador Chen Xu said his country “rejects firmly and categorically condemns” the September 9 attack, which he charged was “a deliberate attempt to derail the negotiation process”. Some of the most severe criticisms came from South Africa, which brought a case against Israel before the International Court of Justice, accusing him of having committed a genocide in Gaza.

The attack “strikes the very heart of the mediation processes,” said Ambassador Mxolisi Nkosi to the Council, adding that he “demonstrates that Israel does not want to end his genocidal war against the Palestinian people”. “It is time for the international community to demonstrate through practical countermeasures that Israel does not enjoy a form of special immunity of responsibility.”
