Pakistan won a diplomatic victory at the United Nations Security Council (USC) after a declaration on the Pahalgam attack avoided a solid language and terminology previously used in similar incidents, including the 2019 Pulwama attack.
The CSNU condemnation of the attack on April 22, published after a period of four days, in particular absolutely to directly mention the Indian government, rather urging cooperation with “all relevant authorities”.
In particular, the declaration included the expression “jammu and cashmere” – a discord – and omitted the word “pahalgam”, a New Delhi term had put pressure to include in an effort to supervise the location as an undisputed Indian territory.
The diplomatic mission of Pakistan has been actively engaged with the members of the Security Council to guarantee the exclusion of the language which it deemed biased.
The press release, initially proposed by the United States, ultimately failed to reach a consensus and was not adopted as an official resolution.
Indian diplomats could not push through key terms they had sought, while Pakistan managed to block what he described as “controversial language”. Islamabad’s efforts have also been considered to reaffirm its position on Jammu-et-Cachemire occupied by Indian, as a contested region under international control.
Tensions have increased between the two nuclear neighbors since the attack, New Delhi suspending the Industry Water Treaty and Islamabad responding by closing its airspace to Indian airlines. The diplomatic channels have cooled, both sides reducing high -level contacts.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and called for a “neutral, transparent and credible” investigation, offering Islamabad’s participation in such an investigation.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Defense, Khawaja Asif, warned that the situation could transform into a “total war” if it was not carefully managed. In response to increasing hostility, Iran proposed to mediate between the two countries.
One day ago, India has released additional water in the Jhelum river from the Jammu-et-Cachemire of Indian origin (IIOJK) without notice, which aroused concerns of the increase in water levels.
Consequently, the river is experiencing a flood -shaped situation, with a flow of 22,000 cops crossing the region of Domel de Muzaffarabad.
