The Pakistan Navy’s fourth Hangor-class submarine – ‘Ghazi’ – was launched at the Shuangliu base in Wuhan, China, Inter-Services Public Relations said.
With the launch of the Ghazi, the Pakistan Navy has achieved another milestone: the four submarines under construction in China are now undergoing rigorous sea trials and are in the final stages of being handed over to Pakistan, military media noted.
Pakistan has signed an agreement with China to acquire eight Hangor-class submarines. Under the contract, four submarines are being built in China and the remaining four will be built in Pakistan by Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works Ltd (KS&EW), as part of technology transfer, the ISPR added.
The submarines will be equipped with advanced weapons and sensors capable of engaging targets from a safe distance. The Hangor-class submarines will play a central role in maintaining peace and stability in regional waters.
The launching ceremony was attended by senior officials from both countries, once again demonstrating the deepening of bilateral cooperation.
