Former Pakistan captain Azhar Ali has been appointed as head of youth development at the PCB. The newly created position was filled, according to the PCB, after a recruitment process and Azhar will carry it out in addition to his current role as a member of the men’s national team selection committee.

Although light on the specific details of this role, a PCB statement said Azhar would be “responsible for shaping the future of Pakistan cricket by designing and implementing comprehensive youth cricket strategies, establishing structures strong grassroots cricket and talent pathways, working with regional cricket associations.” strengthening age group programmes, educating emerging cricketers under the PCB’s Pathways program and organizing seminars and clinics to educate aspiring players on the essential elements of off-field development.”

Azhar is one of the clearest examples of success through the player pathway program in Pakistan.

He then honed his game in the United Kingdom before returning to Pakistan, making his Test debut in 2010, and became a Pakistan great, scoring 7,142 Tests at an average of 42.26, and briefly captained the teams Pakistan Test and ODI.
