The president of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohin Naqvi, became president of the Asian cricket council following a decision taken by the regional executive committee.
The ACC executive committee held a virtual session in which the decision of the presidency of Pakistan was taken.
Naqvi, who has been president of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) since February 2024 will assume this prestigious role on April 3, said the regional cricket body in a statement, adding that its appointment inaugurated in a new leadership chapter for Asian cricket.
“I am deeply honored to assume the presidency of the Asian Cricket Council,” said Naqvi.
“Asia remains the heart rate of global cricket, and I undertake to work with all member advice to accelerate the growth of the game and the global influence.”
“Together, we will unlock new opportunities, promote greater collaboration and adopt Asian cricket at unprecedented tops. I also sincerely thank the ACC president for his leadership and contributions to the AC during his mandate.”
The ACC presidents are recruited on a method based on rotation among member countries.
Naqvi succeeded Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Shammi Silva. By reflecting on the transition, Silva shared his appreciation for the ACC community: “It was a privilege to serve as president of the Asian Cricket Council.
“The unshakable commitment of our member advice working together was essential to raise the stature of ACC throughout the region.”
“While I resign, I have fully confidence that by virtue of leadership capable of Naqvi, acclaimed him his remarkable career and fulfillment,” concluded Silva.
Naqvi was appointed president of the PCB in February of last year for a three -year term and in addition to fulfilling the role of the PCB chief, Naqvi is also the Minister of the Interior of Pakistan.
We also learned that Naqvi made decisions to divide his functions with the former captain of the Pakistani cricket team Waqar Younis.
The head of the PCB will focus on administrative issues on the board of directors and the veteran Pacer will act as an advisor to cricket affairs.
Younis will supervise Cricket affairs, including questions related to international and national cricket, the selection committee and non-objection certificates (NOC) of players.
The 2014 PCB constitution allows the Chairman of the Board of Directors to divide or share his power with another civil servant.
