Pakistan reaffirms SCO engagement

Islamabad:

Friday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to constructive commitment to the Shanghai cooperation Organization (SCO).

He stressed the importance of mutually beneficial collaboration, in particular in the fields of bilateral trade, transport and regional connectivity. The Deputy Prime Minister made these remarks at a meeting with the secretary general of the SCO, Nurlan Yermekbayev, who is currently on an official visit to Pakistan. Dar congratulated Yermekbayev for having assumed responsibilities as a new secretary general of the OCS and ensured the total support of Pakistan at the OCS secariat. He highlighted the narrow historical ties of Pakistan with the member states of the OCS and reaffirmed the dedication of the country to maintain the “Sprit Shanghai”.

He also praised the potential of SCO as a platform for the promotion of regional peace and security, as well as to promote economic development in the region.

In this context, the Deputy Prime Minister reiterated the constructive participation of Pakistan in the promotion of mutually beneficial cooperation in the SCO framework, in particular in the fields of bilateral, transport and connectivity.

Secretary General Yermekbayev thanked Pakistan for his warm hospitality and appreciated the active commitment of the country in SCO affairs. He specifically congratulated the successful accommodation of Pakistan of the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Member States of the OCS (SCO CHG) held in Islamabad in October 2024.
